1. Web Browser Access

  • Remote Access: Go to the UniFi Site Manager and sign in with your UI Account credentials. Once logged in, select your UniFi Console (e.g., Dream Machine Pro, UNVR) and click the Protect icon.

2. Mobile App Access

  • Download: Install the UniFi Protect app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Sign In: Log in using your UI Account. The app will automatically detect consoles linked to your account.

3. Granting Access to Others

  • Once logged into your system, navigate to UniFi OS Settings > Admins & Users on your console.
  • Click Add Admin and invite them using their email address.
  • Set their permissions to Protect and choose a role like "View Only" or "Full Management".

1. View via Web Browser Using a computer is often the best way to review long spans of footage or download high-quality clips.

  • Access: Log in to unifi.ui.com and select your UniFi Console (e.g., UDM Pro, UNVR).
  • Navigation: Click the Protect icon, then open the Playback tab on the left sidebar.
  • Timeline Scrubbing: Use the timeline at the bottom to scroll through recorded history. You can drag the playhead to specific times or use keyboard shortcuts for frame-by-frame navigation.
  • Finding Events: Use the Find Anything (formerly Detections) tab to search for specific AI-detected events like people or vehicles.

2. View via Mobile App (iOS / Android) The mobile app is ideal for quick checks and receiving instant motion alerts. 

  • Access: Open the UniFi Protect app and select your camera from the main dashboard.
  • Playback: Tap on a camera to see its live feed. Swipe the timeline below the video to scroll back in time.
  • Recent Detections: Tap the Detections icon to see a list of recent motion or smart detection events.

3. Downloading and Exporting Footage

  • Web Browser: While in the Playback tab, define a start and end time on the timeline and click the Download icon.
  • Mobile App: Tap the Share icon during playback and select Export Clip to save the video to your phone's photo library.
  • Case Manager: For complex incidents involving multiple clips, use the UniFi Case Manager to bundle recordings into a single downloadable report.

4. Alternative Viewing Options

  • Smart TVs & Tablets: You can install the Protect app on Apple TV or Android TV for permanent monitoring on a larger screen.

  • Access Case Manager: Click the briefcase icon on the left-hand menu in the UniFi Protect application.
  • Create a Case: Select Create Case, then name the incident and add a description.
  • Add Assets/Footage:

    • From Detections: While viewing smart detections (person, vehicle, etc.), select the desired clips and add them to an open case, including optional notes.
    • From Playback: While reviewing recorded footage, you can add clips to a case.
  • Manage Case Files: Within the Case Manager, you can review added clips and annotations.
  • Download/Export: Select the case and click Download to generate a zip file containing all relevant video clips and a PDF report detailing the timeline and notes.
  • Retention: Cases can be used to store critical footage indefinitely for investigations.
